Redesign Großflecken, Neumünster

Conncting Boulevard

Konzept

The unique city centre of Neumünster is character-ised by the large water surface of the Schwale, several historical parks and green spaces, as well as the large area of land that comprises the central square with its elongated, characteristic triangular shape. In order to emphasize the boulevard-like impression of the square, a row of trees with large tubs has been set along its eastern wall, in addition to an avenue of trees in the centre. By refurbishing and reusing the existing large stone paving, important sustainability criteria have been met in the redesign of the square.

At the intersection of Schwale and the promenade, an area of fountains has been set on the Kieler Brücke. This playful water attraction enhances the quality of stay. The east-west connection between Rencks-Park and the „Park an der Schwale“ strengthens a triangular planting element. Surrounded by a concrete bench, it invites passers-by to linger and here serves as a „green hinge“ in the urban space. Another important connecting axis, the medieval Lütjenstraße street, is covered with yellowish clinker paving to emphasise the historical city heritage.
