With the redesign of the Arms Square, the inner-city quarter will be given an attractive sojourn quality by a newly structured square, which is integrated into the pedestrian zone. Due to the space-creating measures, providing leisure, recreation and event areas, the square is characterised by a spacious and open design.
A borderless fountain element with integrated illumination enlivens the central area of the square as an attraction for both young and old. The partial redistribution of the original locations for the plane trees, as well as pruning them back into a box shape, incorporates and accentuates the urban edges of the square. The lighting concept foresees an adequate illumination of the individual areas of the square, while the surrounding buildings will be illuminated by night as angular edges.
On the western side of the square, the different heights between the square and the street is breached by a seating edge with stairs and ramps, providing visitors with an appealing place to linger. The different areas of usage outside of the central square are accentuated by different paving stone formats.
