Bogenviertel Bietigheim-Bissingen

DIVERSELY STRUCTURED

概念

On the former grounds of Deutsche Linoleum-Werke (DLW), a new, forward-looking, largely car-free urban quarter with a diverse mix of residential and commercial spaces is taking shape in a central location. Responding to the varied demands of use, the open space concept is distinguished by differentiated zoning into street spaces, communal spaces and private spaces. The place where the different sectors intersect form important zones for establishing neighbourly contacts and create optimal conditions for a diverse urban structure.

The Bogenviertel is approached from the nearby railway station via a square whose fan-shaped plantings of flowers and grasses create an attractive space that functions as a distribution node. The neighbourhood square at the centre of the Bogenviertel serves as a social gathering place for the residents and creates space for shared activities. A water feature beneath a cluster of trees increases the amenity value of the space and gives children an attractive opportunity for play. The neighbourhood square is further strengthened by activating the adjacent multistorey zones with restaurants and cafés, retail shops, small businesses and cultural facilities. The early participation of citizens and public interest groups ensured that the entire planning process in preparation for the binding urban land use plan was open and transparent from the outset.
